New California Law – Install Carbon Monoxide Dectectors in all Homes

A new law goes into effect July 1, 2011 that requires all homes to have carbon monoxide detectors installed.  The new law gives specific dates on when to have them installed, but most homes will need them by July 1, 2011.  It basically requires detectors outside of all sleeping areas in all homes that use any kind of fossil fuel (gas, wood, or oil).   These new detectors come in both battery powered as well as hard wired models and are available at most hardware stores.  Read the package and make sure it is approved for installation in California.  The packages contain details on how each model should be installed and where they should be located.  The new CAR forms will now require signoff for detectors for all Real Estate transactions.

Details of the actual bill are in the link below.
